> **TL;DR:** For in-app announcements, start with Beamer or AnnounceKit. For a simple widget and nothing else, Headway. For release communication across a large company, LaunchNotes. If you already run feedback boards, the changelog in Canny, Frill, Featurebase or FeatureOS is usually enough, and it can tell voters when their request ships. FeatureOS links every release note back to the request and roadmap item behind it.

A changelog is how users find out you are still building the thing they pay for. Most teams publish one in a Notion page or a CHANGELOG.md that nobody outside engineering reads. A changelog tool puts updates where users already are, inside the product and in their inbox, and tells you who read them.

There are two kinds of tools here. Some are announcement tools first: Beamer, Headway, AnnounceKit and LaunchNotes. Others are feedback tools with a changelog built in: Canny, Frill, Featurebase and FeatureOS. We make FeatureOS, so weigh that section accordingly.

On a budget? We cover free plans separately in [best free changelog tools for startups and small teams](/blog/best-free-changelog-tools-for-startups-or-small-teams).

## What to look for

- **In-app delivery.** A widget or popup inside your product. Users rarely visit a changelog page on their own.
- **Email and targeting.** Send updates to the users they affect, not to everyone.
- **A link to feedback.** When a release ships a request, the people who voted for it should hear about it.
- **Reactions and comments.** A changelog people can answer is worth more than one they can only read.
- **Read stats.** You should know which updates landed and which ones nobody saw.
- **Languages.** If your users are global, English-only notes miss part of them.

## Beamer

Beamer is built for in-app announcements. It gives you a notification sidebar, popups and push notifications, with segmentation so the right users see the right update.

**Best for:** product and marketing teams whose main goal is getting users to notice what shipped.

**Trade-offs:** it is an announcement tool, not a feedback tool, so connecting a release to the request behind it means a second product. Pricing scales with your audience. See the [Beamer comparison](/alternatives/beamer).

## Headway

Headway is the lightweight option: a changelog page and a small widget that shows a badge when there is something new.

**Best for:** small teams that want a changelog live in an afternoon.

**Trade-offs:** it is simple on purpose. Targeting, analytics and feedback are thin or missing. See the [Headway comparison](/alternatives/headway).

## AnnounceKit

AnnounceKit covers widgets, a hosted changelog page, email notifications and user segmentation. It sits between Headway's simplicity and Beamer's breadth.

**Best for:** teams that want targeted in-app and email announcements without a big setup.

**Trade-offs:** like Beamer, it stops at announcing. Feedback and roadmaps live somewhere else. See the [AnnounceKit comparison](/alternatives/announcekit).

## LaunchNotes

LaunchNotes is built for release communication in larger companies. It handles internal and external audiences, subscriber groups and integrations with tools like Jira.

**Best for:** product orgs that need to keep sales, support and customers informed about the same release.

**Trade-offs:** it is heavier and more process-driven than a small team needs. See the [LaunchNotes comparison](/alternatives/launchnotes).

## Canny

Canny is a feedback tool first. Its changelog lets you announce what shipped and notify the users who asked for it.

**Best for:** teams already using Canny for feedback boards.

**Trade-offs:** the changelog is one part of a larger product. If announcements are your main need, a dedicated tool goes deeper. See the [Canny comparison](/alternatives/canny).

## Frill

Frill pairs ideas and a roadmap with announcements, all behind one tidy widget.

**Best for:** small teams that want a light feedback-to-announcement loop that looks good out of the box.

**Trade-offs:** it stays light. Advanced targeting and analytics are limited compared with announcement-first tools. See the [Frill comparison](/alternatives/frill).

## Featurebase

Featurebase includes a changelog with a widget and email updates, alongside feedback boards, a roadmap and a help center.

**Best for:** teams that want changelog, feedback and support in one product with a few seats.

**Trade-offs:** pricing is per seat. On yearly billing, Growth is $29 per seat per month, Professional $59 and Enterprise $99, with a free plan for one seat ([featurebase.app/pricing](https://featurebase.app/pricing), as of October 2026). Ten Growth seats is $290 a month. See the [Featurebase comparison](/alternatives/featurebase).

## FeatureOS

[FeatureOS release notes](/release-notes) sit in the same workspace as your [feedback boards](/boards) and [roadmap](/roadmaps). Link a changelog entry to the requests it ships, and the people who voted get notified. Users can react and comment on each update, and you can see views and clicks per entry. Changelogs can be auto-translated into 21 languages, and any entry can be expanded into a [knowledge base](/knowledge-base) article.

**Best for:** SaaS teams that want release notes tied to the feedback and roadmap behind them.

**Trade-offs:** if all you want is a changelog widget, FeatureOS is more product than you need. There is no free plan; paid plans start with a 14-day free trial.

**Pricing:** seats come in bundles. Starter is $60 a month for 5 seats, Growth $120 for 10, Business $250 for 15, and extra seats are $15 each. See [pricing](/pricing).
